How we behave
in your home

The standard every one of our people signs up to

Why we have a code

We are guests in people’s homes and partners in their lives. That is a privilege, and it comes with a standard. This code applies to everyone at Life Made Lighter. Every support worker, every nurse, every coordinator and every leader. It is part of how we hire, how we train and how we hold ourselves to account.

We act with respect and dignity

We treat every person as the decision-maker in their own life. We honour individuality, culture, language, faith and identity, and we support choices rather than override them.

We show up

We arrive when we say we will, we do what we say we will do, and when something changes we communicate early. Reliability is not an extra. It is the product.

We act with honesty and integrity

We are truthful in what we say and transparent in what we do. We do not take advantage of trust, and we never pressure anyone into services, decisions or opinions.

We provide safe, quality support

We work with care and skill, within our training and competence. We follow safe practices in every home, and we ask for help when something is beyond us rather than guessing.

We protect privacy

What we see and hear in someone’s home stays private. We handle personal and health information in line with our Privacy Policy and we keep confidences.

We keep boundaries

We do not accept gifts of value, borrow, lend, or involve ourselves in clients’ finances or wills. Our relationships with clients are warm, professional and safe.

We act on concerns

We have zero tolerance for violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation or discrimination in any form. Every one of us is required to raise and report anything that could risk a person’s safety or wellbeing, no matter who is involved.

We welcome feedback

Compliments, complaints and everything in between make us better. Raising a concern will never lead to negative consequences for the person who raised it.

How we uphold it

Every person is screened before they join us, trained on this code, and supported by supervision and regular check-ins. Breaches are taken seriously and can lead to consequences up to and including the end of employment.

More information

A national Code of Conduct for Aged Care sets out the behaviour expected of everyone who works in aged care in Australia. You can read more about it on the Department of Health website.
